Problem Of Practice: Effective Feedback
How do I give timely,
personalized, useful feedback that students are able to process, interact with,
and use effectively?
Please consider the following factors:
- Time! Not becoming burnt out.
- Large class sizes (Last year I taught 6 class periods each day of 32 students each- 192 students total!)
- Accessibility
- Hearing/Vision impairments
- English Language Learners
- How do I measure their use of the feedback?
- How do I know the feedback was effective and increased learning?
- Interactivity with students?
- Ease of use for students?

Introduction
Hello,
My name is Erin and I currently live just outside of Asheville in North Carolina. I moved here with my boyfriend this past Summer. I was born in Boulder, Colorado, and went to CU Boulder for a BA in Psychology. I graduated from there in 2007 and found myself waitressing and bartending for several years after that. In 2010 I decided to follow my heart to become a secondary teacher, and went back to school for a BA in History and teaching licensure at Metropolitan State University of Denver. The past few school years I worked at a high school on the beautiful western slope mountains of Colorado as a social studies teacher. I am taking a break this school year and working as a substitute teacher here in North Carolina, but I hope to return to a full contract teaching position asap. I am also pregnant with my first child and expecting the baby this Summer. My boyfriend and I are looking to purchase our first home as soon as we find something within our budget (but hopefully before the baby is born!) as we are currently renting the upstairs of another couple's home. This is a time of transitions and new beginnings for me and I look forward to using this time to reflect upon my pedagogy and the institution of public education as a whole. I take a hopeful approach and really like the human-centered optimism that Design Thinking has to offer the current challenges and transitions in education.
I look forward to working with you all this term!
